Charter.edu provides an easy to remember, relevant domain names, allowing administrators, teachers, and parents to easily locate your presence on the World Wide Web.
For example, you may register two domain names – one for the city, in which your school / organization is located and another one for the actual name of the school / organization as in www.denver.charter.edu and www.name.charter.edu.

What if my school already has a domain name?
If your school already has a domain ending in .org, .net, or .com, you can forward your new Charter.edu domain name to your existing website by selecting “Domain Forwarding”.

What are the requirements for Charter.edu domain names?
Charter.edu domain names are reserved only for charter schools, state
and federal agencies, associations, and selected corporations involved
in the development, maintenance, and support of charter schools.
Charter.edu reserves the right to refuse a registration of a particular
domain name and/or for a particular organization, or to cancel a
registration after the fact if it does not meet the requirements or has
violated Charter.edu rules

How much does a Charter.edu domain cost? How can we pay for it?
Standard annual registration fee is $85. Currently, only credit card payments are accepted.

How many domains can we register?
Domains are registered on first come, first serve basis. There is no limit on the number of domains your school / organization may register. However, all registrations require approval.

How long does it take for my Charter.edu domain to become active?
Allow up to 24 hours for a domain to be activated. Activation time
also depends on whether you host or forward your Charter.edu domain.

Can we receive a refund?
As with other domain names, all registrations are final, and the registrar does not issue refunds. Therefore, please review carefully the domain name and make sure it’s spelled correctly, before making a payment. Charter.edu is not responsible for registration errors.

Can we sell our Charter.edu domain?
Transfer of Charter.edu domain names is prohibited. You may not sell, trade, lease, assign, or in any other way transfer the domain name to another party.
However, pointing or forwarding a .charter.edu domain name to another website is permitted.

What are the reserved domains? Can we apply for one?
Charter.edu has set aside certain domain names, designated for federal and state agencies (departments), and charter schools associations. Reserved domains include all state/country names and abbreviations (e.g. TX.charter.edu, OREGON.charter.edu, US.charter.edu, etc.).
To apply for a reserved domain, submit your request on official stationary, stating the jurisdiction/primary role of your organization as it relates to charter schools. Make sure to include complete contact information and the domain name you’re requesting. Fax the application to (307) 200-4257. You will be contacted once the application is approved and the domain name is granted. Expected response time is 5 business days.
